The list of events
for the evening of November 12th include:
• The East
African Resource Center, 3808
Pearl Street, a non-profit cultural educational
center will sponsor a movie screening at
the Community Education Center, (CEC) 3500
Lancaster Avenue, from 7-9pm. A documentary
entitled “A Great Wonder,” the
story of the lost children of Sudan comes
alive through the video diaries of three
Sudanese orphans. Short presentations and
discussions led by members of the Sudanese
local community will follow. Admission is
$8.00 which also includes a visit to EARSC.
• The Community
Education Center (CEC) at 3500
Lancaster Avenue will feature an exhibition
of work by nine artists who live and work
around Nairobi, Kenya. Meek Gichugu, John
Gitonga, Wanu Brush, Shine Tani, Rehab Tani,
Martin Kamuyu, Nich N., Joe Friday, Shade
Kamau, and Lucky Mutebi will be the artists
displayed throughout the public spaces of
the center.
• Art on 38 Gallery
will host an exhibit entitled “Artistic
Synergy” featuring the artwork of
Jonas Allen and Felix Osiemi. Jonas Allen,
from Port-au-prince in Haiti, presents his
abstractions that are influenced by Rembrandt
and the 17th Century Dutch masters. Felix
Osiemi, a native of Lagos, Nigeria refers
to his style as Atmospheric Color transparency,
a way of making the eye view what the naked
eye cannot see. The show will also feature
live music by jazz recording artist H.Songhai.
Admission is free.
• Vintage 36 Boutique &
Gallery located at 3624 Lancaster
Avenue will be showcasing the photography
of Benjamin Harris. A native New Yorker,
Harris, is equally as skilled in black and
white, as well as color images. Along with
the exhibit Vintage will be displaying vintage
clothing, unique furniture and records.
Admission is free.
• Fencing
Academy at 3919 Lancaster Avenue
will demonstrate active training classes
displaying the physical demands as well
as the enjoyable activity of fencing. Admission
is free to the public from 5-9pm.
