The History of the Building

 

302-304 N. 35th St. were designed and built by Wilson Brothers & Co.  They were torn down about 1960 for the playground of the Samuel Powel Elementary School.

            Elizabeth Wilson and Emily Loyd were the daughters of Charles C. and Hannah C. Loyd.  In 1870, they lived at 2204 Brandywine St.

1898 Blue Book: Alfred N. Keim was a member of the Powelton Club. (For a brief history of the club, see the Powelton History Blog.)

            Alfred Keim was a lawyer.  He was in the class of 1894 at the University of Pennsylvania Law School.  The 1895 directory lists him at 2039 Brandywine with an office at 608 Chestnut St.  He is also listed at this address in the 1906 Blue Book, but was not enumerated anywhere in the 1900 census.  In 1910, he was a boarder at 3411 Race St.
