3214 Baring Street

 

“Circa 1875, two-and-one-half story Second 'Empire style house,' originally a double; now front partially bricked and only one entrance used. Original wood porch has some alterations to posts and projecting first-floor bay window; scroll-shaped bracketed wood cornice below slate-shingled mansard which has four dormers with segmental windowheads.”

1875, Jan. 5: Death of George Elkins, 3 years old, son of George W. and Frances L. Elkins of 3214 Baring St.  Burial at South Laurel Hill Cemetery.

 

1875, Jan. 7: Death of Elizabeth S. Elkins, 16 months years old, daughter of George W. and Frances L. Elkins.  Burial at South Laurel Hill Cemetery.

 

1875, Jan. 9: Death of Frances L. Elkins, 6 years old, daughter of George W. and Frances L. Elkins.  Burial at South Laurel Hill Cemetery.

            In 1880, George and Frances Elkins lived at 3410 Race St.  He was 42 and a commercial merchant.  She was 36.  In 1900, they lived at 3317 Baring St. and in 1910, they were boarders at 412 N.  34th St.  They never had any more children.

1911, April 16: Marriage license issued to Minnie E. Flint of 3214 Baring St. and Dr. Oran M. Belfay of 5024 Larchwood

            Oran Belfrey was a widower.  In 1910 he was 54 years old and listed his occupation as physician for a life insurance company.  He was born in Canada and immigrated in 1887.

 

1917 WWI Draft Registration: Alfred Curtis Flint, born July 15, 1877; self employed salesman, with an office at 1232 Real Estate Trust Building; nearest relative: Mrs. O. M. Belfry, Landsdowne, Del. Co., Pa.

            In 1930, he was married to Gertrude D. Flint (age 48, born in England) and living in Upper Darby.  They had a 7 year-old son, Albert N. Flint.  They had a His WWII Draft Registration gave his address as McDade Rd., Mont Clare, Montgomery Co., Pa.  He was working for Synthane Corp. in Oaks, Pa.
