1866, Oct. 9: Transfer of 3405-3411 Baring St. and 3404-3410 Hamilton St. from Gerardus A. Haines to Alexander J. Andrews

1869, Apr. 9: Transfer 3405-3407 Baring St. and 3404-3406 Hamilton St. from Alexander J. Andrews and wife to Robert Glendenning, Jr. trustee.

Alexander and Amelia Andrews lived at 3507 Baring St.

Charlotte was the widow of John H. Smith (born about 1825) who was born in Del. They were living in Ward 18 South West Division. John a sail maker and manufacturer and Charlotte kept a confectionary store. They lived with John and Mary Boyd (ages 53 and 45) who were probably Charlotte’s parent. He was a stone cutter. Also in the household were William, Martha and Josephine Boyd, probably Charlotte’s siblings. William was a sail maker and Martha was a dress maker.

In 1880, John Jr. was a boarder at 807 Taylor St working as a carpenter.

1870, April: Deed transferred from John Doyle to William H. List.

John Doyle was born in Ireland about 1835. In 1870, he and his family were living on Vine St. He was a builder with real estate holdings worth $100,000 and personal property worth $2,500. By 1880, they had moved to 3421 Race St. where they lived until 1893. In 1880, he described himself as a builder, but in the 1881 directory he lists his business as carpet cleaning. In the 1887 directory and later directories, he listed his business as storage.

The 1866 Directory lists Edward Murdock, bookbinder, 632 Tasker St. which is in Queen Village. In 1870, the Murdocks and the William List family were living together in North Philadelphia. William was a conveyancer. His parents were John and Jane List. John was a jeweler. In 1856, when William was 10, they lived at 113 Lombard St.

1891, Nov. 1: “An Old Man’s Fatal Fall. Edward Murdoch, 70 years old, of 3406 Hamilton street, fell down stairs at his residence yesterday and sustained injuries that caused his death shortly afterwards.” (Phila. Inquirer, Nov. 2, 1891)

1898, Sept. 6: “The wedding of Miss Jennie Noel List, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William H. List, to Mr. William P. Young, took place last evening at the Northminster Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Dr. Cochran [3302 Baring St.] officiating. Miss Grace Ringwalt [3409 Hamilton St.] was maid of honor and Miss Kate Andrews [3416 Hamilton St.], Miss Florence Smedley and Miss Edith List [3406 Hamilton St.] were the bridesmaids. Mr. William Adams was best man, and Messrs. George W. Kendrick, 3d [3507 Baring St.], W. M. Mitchell and Mr. Murdoch Kendrick [3507 Baring St.] were the ushers. A reception followed at the residence of the bride’s parents, 3406 Hamilton street. After the wedding trip the bride and groom will reside on Baring street, near Saunders avenue.” (Phila. In 1910, Leonardo lived at 3301 Hamilton. In 1920, he was at 209 N. 35^th and in 1930, he lived at 3605 Hamilton.

Edith Murdock married Dr. Sidney Alexander Chalfont of Pittsburgh. They had one daughter, Evaline, who was attending school in Pittsburgh in 1922. Edith is buried in Churchville, PA. in the Beulah Presbyterian Church cemetery.

1901, November: Deed transferred from George W. Kendrick Jr. to Ella M. List.

1903: “Chairman John M. Campbell announced that George W. Kendrick, Jr., [3404 Hamilton St. and 3507 Baring St.] had founded a free scholarship in Bryn Mawr College in memory of his wife, Minnie Murdoch Kendrick, for many years President of the Alumnae of the Girls' High and Normal Schools. This scholarship will be open to graduates of the two higher schools for girls. The only name submitted was that of Minnie K. List, and she was unanimously chosen to the scholarship. Minnie Murdoch lived at 3507 Baring St.”

(“Scholarships were awarded yesterday by the Committee on Scholarships of the Board of Public Education among the graduates of the Central High School, Girls' High School and Normal School.” The North American, 8/30/1903)

1903-’07: Minnie Kendrick List, undergraduate student at Bryn Mawr College, Dept. of Education. She was prepared by Girl’s High School, Phila. “Bryn Mawr Program” yearly programs list her. She was the first recipient of a scholarship at Bryn Mawr that was founded by George W. Kendrick, Jr. in honor of his wife, Minnie Murdock Kendrick.
