Charlotte was the widow of John H.
Smith (born about 1825) who was born in Del.
They were living in Ward 18 South West Division. John a sail maker and manufacturer and
Charlotte kept a confectionary store.
They lived with John and Mary Boyd (ages 53 and 45) who were probably
Charlotte’s parent. He was a stone
cutter. Also in the household were
William, Martha and Josephine Boyd, probably Charlotte’s siblings. William was a sail maker and Martha was a
dress maker.
In 1880, John Jr. was a boarder at

John Doyle was born in Ireland about
1835. In 1870, he and his family were
living on Vine St. He was a builder with
real estate holdings worth $100,000 and personal property worth $2,500. By 1880, they had moved to 3421 Race St.
where they lived until 1893. In 1880, he
described himself as a builder, but in the 1881 directory he lists his business
as carpet cleaning. In the 1887
directory and later directories, he listed his business as storage.

1866 Directory lists Edward Murdock, bookbinder, 632 Tasker St. which is in
Queen Village. In 1870, the Murdocks and
the William List family were living together in North Philadelphia. William was a conveyancer. His parents were John and Jane List. John was a jeweler. In 1856, when William was 10, they lived at
113 Lombard St.
