            Hi parents lived across the street at 3619 Baring St. in 1880.  In 1870, he lived with them at 3301 Haverford Ave.

            The 1890 directory lists: “Chapman Alfred P. (Bowen, Dungan & Co.), h Swarthmore.”

            Emma Hall Chapman and her brothers Charles Hall and James Dallas Hall were listed in the 1870 census with their mother, Elizabeth Hall.  They were probably living on the north side of the 4000 block of Haverford.  Charles Hall and his brother were brick manufacturers.  James was listed as owning $50,000 in real estate.  In 1860, Charles was a farmer and James was in school.

                             In 1890, Charles Hall was living at 3808 Powelton Ave.  J. Dallas Hall was living at 3313 Spring Garden St.  He was Chief Clerk at City Hall.

                                    She was the widow of Joshua G. James.  In 1880, they lived at 3412 Powelton Ave.

                                    In 1910, Alvan T. James was living at 4710 Windson Ave and was a widower.

            In 1910, he lived at 3612 Baring St. (See his biography there.)

            In 1917, he was listed at Hamilton Court, 39th and Chestnut. (Catalogue of Delta Upsilon, 1917)

            Eliza was the widow of Samuel Boyd.  He was born in Ireland about 1830 and was listed as a laborer in 1880.  They lived at 1219 S. 18th St.  In 1900, Eliza was widowed and living with several of her children at 3619 Locust St.  Samuel C. was a locomotive engineer.  Alexander Wray, the son of Eliza’s daughter Jennie and her husband James Wray.

 

1920:

Elizabeth Boyd            45        Sister; single

            In 1930, Alexander was married to Laura R. Wray and living at 302 N. 35th St.  He was a rate clerk for a steam railroad.  James was apparently living in an apartment building at 1421 Arch St.  He was a salesman in a department store.  It appears that Elizabeth was living in an apartment building at 1520 Spruce St.  Samuel may have been deceased by then.

            In 1950, Louisa R. Wray was still living at 302 N. 35th St.

 

1930:
