The History of the Building

 

ÒDouble with 3624 [which was not built until about 1885]. Circa 1870 two-story Italianate house, stuccoed, with circa 1905 Colonial Revival porch, shutters,. projecting first-floor bay and dentillated cornice.Ó

            The 1865 IRS records for May listed him at Elm [Warren] St. above 35th, income $569, watch and piano.

Anna [M] McAllister    51        Physician; single; renting

            Anna M. McAllister graduated from the Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania.  In the 1881 Directory, she was listed as an M.D. on the staff there.  In 1880, she lived with her parents, William and Anna J. McAllister, at 2045 Chestnut St.  Her father and her four brothers were opticians.  Anna was listed as a Òdoctress.Ó (ED 164, 9)  In the 1895 Directory, she is still listed at 2045 Chestnut.  She organized a campaign to build the first hospital in Easton, Pa.  In 1910 and 1920, she lived at 3503 Baring St. with her sister.

            Andrew was the son of David Boto, a horse dealer.  In 1880, they lived at 1519 Race St.  The 1881 directory also lists an Andrew Botto at that address who was probably an uncle.  That Andrew was in the fruit business with his brother Vincent.

            The 1895 directory lists an Andrew Botto at 243 N 17th.
