
The History of the Building
The south side of this block was developed by John
Shedwick (see 3408 Race
St.). The first residents appear toward
the west end of the block in the 1862 directory (compiled in the fall of 1861)
with the street listed as Hampton Place.

1900, they lived at 435 S. 43rd St.
Sophia was married with two children, although her husband was not listed
with them. Bertha and a younger
daughter, Blanch, were single.
