The History of the Building

 

3701-19: ÒCirca 1880 two-and-one-half story Second Empire style doubles; stone facade over brick. First-floor Victorian porches; some altered-(3703, 3705-07, 3709, 3719); four registers, slate- shingled mansard (3701, 3705-07, 3709 asphalt); slightly arched dormer windowheads. All built by the same developer.Ó

            In 1880, Nelson (age 5) was living with his parents and his maternal grandparents at 19 S. 38th St.  His grandfather, William Darker (56) was a wire maker born in England.  His grandmother was of Scottish descent.  His father, George W. Hunt (31) was a bookkeeper born in N.H. (or Maine).  George brother, Alfred D. Hunt (20) also lived with them.  In 1900, William Darker was deceased.  Nelson still lived at 19 N. 38th St. with his parents, his grandmother, and his uncle, Alfred Hunt, a salesman.  Nelson (age 25) was listed as a student.
