1880, Henry A. Terry (age 38) and his wife, Lizzie (36), lived at 612 Wood
St. He was a hardware merchant who was
born in Connecticut. They had two sons, James
(13) and Henry, Jr. (11), and four daughters (ages 3 months to 9 years). Lizzie’s mother, Eliza R. Fox (69) also lived
with them.

August 8: “H. A. TERRY DEAD
“A Prominent West Philadelphian Stricken Down at Atlantic City.
“H.
A. Terry, of 3714 Hamilton street, a prominent
merchant and politician, died suddenly of heart disease yesterday at Atlantic
City, and was brought home last night.
Mr. Terry was one of the first members of the First Blaine Republican
Club.
“He
was formerly a member of the old American Hose Company, and vice president of
the Hardware Exchange. For years he has
been the manager of the Russell-Erwin Manufacturing Company in this city. He leaves a wife and several children.” (Phila. Inquirer,
Aug. 9, 1892)
In
1900, the rest of the family was living at 1129 S. 46th St. Lizzie was now 56 and widowed. James (now 32) and Henry, Jr. (29) headed the
household. They were both in the hardware
business and both unmarried. All four
sisters (11 to 24) were still unmarried.
